illustration, design & facilitation

Disrupt Design was commissioned by Oxfam Asia to develop this open source 65-page workshop facilitation & creative development toolkit designed to support the easy uptake and integration of creative campaign design though the Disruptive Design Method.

To create this toolkit, we developed a two-day co-creation workshop in Bangkok, Thailand with Oxfam representatives, campaign partners, and invited digital activists, creative communicators and supporting stakeholders. Through this workshop, we were able to identify the the content and flow that would work best for the context that these campaigners are working within.

Running through the the tools of in the DDM through the curated two-day experience, participants mined the process of creating change campaigns, focusing on what elements they needed to be equipped with the tools to create more change in the digital arena, including easy to understand and implement creative approaches.

Once the information was gathered, we synthesized the content from the workshop days, and developed the toolkit as a internally share-able downloadable asset, as well as a shorter version for open access under creative commons. To create an accessible, friendly and invitational tool for global Oxfam teams, a bright colourful palette was used, and I created over 100 hand-drawn illustrations and custom lettering.

This toolkit is intended for use in areas where digital spaces may not be accessible or safe, and so the activities are intentionally designed to be analogue, non-tech dependant and easy to activate for anyone in the organization.

This toolkit was published under the creative commons license: Attribution-NonCommercial. Thank you to the participants of the Bangkok workshop for contributing to the formation of this open-source toolkit.

The full customized 65-page toolkit includes a step-by-step illustrated guide to creating engaging workshops and creative campaigns that utilize the Disruptive Design Method and share insights into how to design beautiful and effective digital campaigns.

The Facilitation Toolkit and the connected Workshop Pack is intended to be used in non-traditional workshop settings to further the design of effective digital activism campaigns. It supports adopting new creative techniques for activating change.

A shorter version of the toolkit is part of the open source agreement we have with Oxfam, and is available for as a free digital download.
