DESIGN, ILLUSTRATION, BRANDING & FACILITATION

SEAC is a leading provider of professional development services in South East Asia, with beautiful learning centers in Bangkok, Vietnam and Singapore. As part of their expansion into youth-based learning and their Your Next U initiative, along with a company-wide desire to be at the forefront of bringing sustainability and positively disruptive thinking to the region, SEAC commissioned Disrupt Design to develop a learning system that supports active and global citizenship.

Over an extensive research and development year, we created a 12-part learning system that is comprised of 36 learning modules across a wide variety of topics related to sustainability, social entrepreneurship, active citizenship and creative change.

The full system is comprised of 12 facilitation workbooks, over 60 in-class activities, a universal 56-card deck, and a detailed 150 page facilitators’ manual. We also delivered an online educator training platform to support facilitators in upskilling in the core topics and experiential educational approach so that they can deliver the content in highly effective ways.

The Changemaker Lab learning system is currently available in Thai and English languages, with plans to expand the translations.

As part of our equity access policy of distributing 20% of commissioned content for free, there is a free version of the universal card deck with all 56 cards and 36 activities that can be downloaded and used by anyone to advance sustainability and creative problem solving.

WORKSHOPS & TRAINING

The base of this project development was founded on two research trips to Thailand. While there, we conducted workshops with local professionals, universities, and youth to understand what knowledge gaps needed to be filled. We also conducted cultural knowledge gathering sessions with local representatives to further understand the ways to situate the knowledge content, trends, colour, references and language usage.

After our initial research deep dive trips, I returned to Bangkok to conduct a two day workshop to train the the program trainers and ensure they felt comfortable delivering the program contents.

This project was designed so that any of the SEAC trainers could use the modular learning program we developed confidently with base level training. The format was created as facilitation prompts, enabling the trainers to use them as curiosity driven prompts, and build a co-discovery process of learning. To supplement the format of the program delivery, we also developed and delivered a 150 page training manual for quick reference and background information.

DESIGN DIRECTION

As a result of the deep dive workshops and research trips that we conducted, we wanted to draw on the fun, colourful and whimsical trends that we saw during our time in Bangkok. We created several different styles of graphics with a variety of colour palettes, and tested them with participants to find what people responded to the most. In the end, bright purple, fuchsia, blue, neon lime, neon green and black were chosen to reflect the vibrant and colourful region.
